Enameled steel, or "Peltre" as it is known in Latin America, is a sheet of carbon steel with a long-lasting vitreous coating. Its main use is in the manufacture of kitchen products, such as pots, pans and products that require high durability. The strength of enameled steel allows it to be used in any situation. It is oven and refrigerator safe; chemical resistant; fire resistant; stronger than ceramic and glass; a sustainable material; non-toxic; recyclable in foundry settings; and does not retain odors or lose its color.
A partnership between Libia Moreno and Enrique Arellano, Utilitario Mexicano is dedicated to seeking out simple, useful and beautiful objects, made in Mexico, that have traditionally been part of Mexican life. Their range of products exists somewhere between the industrial and the artisan, and all pieces share the characteristic that they were made with the firm purpose of lasting in both memory and in use.
