Furoshiki - Sea Otters Blue
Introducing furoshiki - the original eco-conscious, reusable cloth with many uses. Used for more than 1,000 years to wrap valuables and gifts in Japan, any square piece of cloth can be used as furoshiki - but we particularly enjoy sourcing and using decorative cloths with a nice hemmed edge like the one here.
How to give a gift is just as important as choosing the right one. By wrapping an object, you are handling it with care and showing respect to the receiver. To make it memorable, the Japanese have a culture of wrapping gifts and souvenirs in furoshiki using special wrapping and tying techniques. We include basic wrapping instructions with each purchase, and recommend the book Furoshiki for even more ideas.
Wrapping a gift in a furoshiki not only makes for a special presentation - it also doubles as part of the present! Furoshiki can be used again and again, not only to wrap items, but as bags, scarves, wall hangings, handkerchiefs, bandanas, napkins, table settings - and more.
This furoshiki is 100% cotton and is charmingly illustrated with a family of sea otters floating in a sea of kelp while being visited by small fish and sea animals. It measures 104 cm/ 40.9 inches square. This size is good for wrapping extra large items, using as a bag, knapsack, tapestry, tablecloth, picnic blanket or to decorate a child's room.
Made in Japan.
