Stories of Paper: co-edition with Louvre Abu Dhabi and Louvre Paris

Edited with text by Xavier Salmon, Victor Hundsbuckler

Stories of Paper traces the history of paper as a thousand-year-old material used from antiquity to the present day, and provides an original perspective on the history of graphic arts. From manufacturing to circulation as well as technical progress, the book highlights the many aspects of this familiar material, which is now being replaced by digital technology in all aspects of our daily lives.

By exploring the different plants from which it originates, as well as the numerous aspects from which its production emanates, the diversity of the artworks on display invites the public to discover the multiple uses of paper as a medium for creativity, ideas, and exchange over the centuries and throughout cultures.

With artworks from French collections, particularly works from the Musée du Louvre, Musée Guimet, Bibliothèque nationale de France, and the Centre Georges-Pompidou. This book is an opportunity to showcase local contemporary artists as well as international contemporary creations on display from the Louvre Abu Dhabi, Sharjah Art Foundation, Goesan Museum, and the Cultural Institute of Korea.

Xavier Salmon is director at the Department of Drawings and Prints, at the Louvre Museum.

Victor Hundsbuckler is curator at the Department of Drawings and Prints, at the Louvre Museum. He is in charge of French, Italian and Spanish drawings of the 17th century.
