The Egg and The Eye (Shop)

-established 1965, rebranded 2026

Founded by painter Edith Robinson Wyle (1918-1999), Craft Contemporary's museum and shop were originally created as a gallery space and restaurant called The Egg and The Eye. Opened on November 1, 1965, at our current location, in a three-story neo-Georgian building with a first-floor gallery and shop, and a mezzanine-level restaurant that served over 50 different kinds of omelettes. When asked about the name, Edith would refer to the gallery/shop as the "eye" and the "egg" as a nod to the restaurant.

Wyle's focus on handmade, artisan-created objects and multi-sensory experiences continues to be an inspiration for the Shop and Museum.

Monday & Tuesday: Closed
Wednesday - Sunday: 11 am to 5 pm
First Thursday of every month: 12 to 8 pm
