These beautiful handwoven Ata handbags are handcrafted by Balinese women working from their homes in the Tenganan Village of Eastern Bali. After the purses and bags are woven, they are dried under the sun and then hung over a fire for several days. The smoke and heat from the fire give them their golden color (natural) and cures them, making them hard and durable and ensuring they will last a lifetime.

A sculptural woven trapezoid tote with a graceful round handle, handcrafted for the shopper who wants a bag with a story. This large Ata vine style carries beautifully from market to lunch and lands well with fair-trade-minded, style-conscious women.

Finished with a batik print lining and a gathered drawstring closure.

Made in Indonesia.

The Winding Road works with artisans in developing countries to help improve their standard of living by providing a fair wage and a safe workplace. They've been working with their felt supplier in Nepal since 2012, a couple in their early 20s who had moved to Kathmandu from their village to create a better life. The folks from The Winding Road brought their felt goods to the US, and now have them in hundreds of stores, employing 75+ women artisans. Part of their profits go toward paying full school tuition for their artisans' children.
