Concepcion is one of the well-known Aguilar sisters, each an established artist with a unique style of clay work in the world of Mexican crafts. Concepcion has been creating wildly fantastical insects (among other themes) for more than 30 years. She, her husband, and three daughters produce these delightfully inspired bugs, each creating their own distinct collection from locally mined clay.

The process from start to finish takes many days: first, the lumps of "dirt" must be turned into pliable clay, then the clay shaped into forms, adding wire for antennas, legs, etc. When dry, the bugs are baked in a wood-fired kiln for 9 hours, and finally, painted with acrylic paint in 3 stages.

It is said that no one has ever seen an identical pair of insects! When asked what their source of inspiration is, Concepcion shrugs her shoulders and says, "Well, our imaginations, of course!"

Their work is as long-lasting and treasured,
