Eyes on MorYork - Photographic Portraits, 2014

MorYork is housed in a 1933 bow-trussed building built as a Safeway Supermarket. The space was Skateland, a roller rink in the 50s. Raceland, a slot car racing facility in the 60s, and J.J. Jewelcraft, a business selling tools and supplies to craftsmen and the jewelry industry in the 70s.

Since 1986, MorYork has been the studio and gallery of Clare Graham and Bob Breen. It continues to evolve.

Eyes on MorYork is an attempt to have multiple photographers record what the space looks like in 2014, prior to a show at the Craft and Folk Art Museum. The show will be comprised of pieces that normally cohabitate the dense environments of MorYork.

Constantly evolving and continually morphing, MorYork is ephemeral; the building continues to live its destiny. These portraits seek to capture moments in its life. - Clare Graham

I wanted to convey the sheer magnitude and variety of items that are organized and stored in MorYork Gallery. These images show the "Backstage" of MorYork. This is the area where the objects are kept and slowly added to until they exist in quantities that are useful to Clare. The level of organization is astounding, and the variety of items is almost overwhelming. I believe this quantity of items organized so perfectly is a necessary part of Clare's process. Having immediate access to a huge variety of interesting objects allows Clare to produce art at a rate that seems almost superhuman.
