The corn kernel is one of the three sisters; in agriculture, corn, beans, and squash are considered the three sisters of Indigenous Americas as they nurture each other and help one another’s growth when they are planted together. These earrings are part of the Three Sisters Mi Corasol series, celebrating the foods that connect us to our cultural roots and remind us of solidarity and support.
These corn kernel stud earrings are roughly 0.25 inch small, and each earring is detailed and cast from a unique corn kernel. They are lightweight (less than two grams each) and are 100% sterling silver, perfect for someone with sensitive ears.
These pieces are produced through sand casting, a process in which liquefied metal is poured into a sand mold, one of the oldest forms of metal production.
Inspired by her love for nature and her vibrant communities, Sol, the designer, considers herself an active participant in the BIPOC, LGBTQI+, and migrant groups in Southern California. In her pieces, she draws from nature to craft wearable adornments that capture the lessons of resilience and resistance.
Her work symbolizes strength within historically marginalized communities and celebrates their cultural practices and traditions. Seeds and plants, like jewelry and adornments, are not just beautiful objects but powerful storytellers, tokens that remind us of both our individual and collective power.
