A djembe (pronounced JEM-bay) is a rope-tuned, skin-covered goblet drum played with bare hands. Originating in West Africa, it is famous for producing a wide, versatile range of pitches. According to the Bambara people of Mali, the name "djembe" is derived from the phrase "Anke djé, anke bé," which translates to "everyone gather together in peace." Beyond its musical function, the djembe is known as a "healing drum." Historically, it was used to unify the community, communicate messages, and accompany rites of passage, weddings, and warrior ceremonies. Master drummers are deeply respected and known as djembefola
These djembe drums are hand-painted and carved by skilled artisans in Indonesia. The drum head is made of goat skin, which produces a nice, resonant sound depending on how it's played. Heavy-duty cords allow for carrying, and for tuning and stabilization.
There will be differences in the tribal motif and the color of the wood. Let us choose for you from the inventory we have in the Shop.
