Published on the occasion of Witch Craft: Re-thinking Power at Craft Contemporary, this is the first dedicated publication to focus on the work of Zimbabwe-based artist, Moffat Takadiwa. Richly illustrated in full color with installation photographs as well as many photos of the artist at work. Featuring a conversation with Moffat Takadiwa by Morad Montazami, Ignatius T. Mabasa’s ‘A Baobab Tree House and a Tall Pet Giraffe’ and ‘Witch Craft / Which Craft: Moffat Takadiwa Punctures Western Power Structures’ by Holly Jerger, curator of Takadiwa’s solo exhibition at Craft Contemporary.

Moffat Takadiwa transforms post-consumer waste  – such as used toothpaste tubes, spray cans, computer keyboards – into lush, densely layered sculptures and tapestry-like wall works that embody the complexities of contemporary Zimbabwean politics, culture, and reference his Korekore heritage. These pieces are Takadiwa’s investigations of power from a distinctly African perspective – one that acknowledges spirituality as a powerful resource for Africa’s future growth.
