Molinillo Bangle Bracelet by Carla Fernandez - Santa María

Crafted by artisans in Santa Maria Rayon, these wooden bangles are turned on a lathe and hand-carved using the same techniques used to make molinillos, the traditional grinding utensils used to mix and froth Mexican hot chocolate. The molinillo helps blend the ingredients by means of carved rings that introduce oxygen while creating a characteristic foam that contains a spiritual meaning to the Mayans. The bangles take the shape of these carved and ridged rings and come in a variety of designs, sizes, and colors. 

Carla Fernández is an internationally recognized fashion house based in Mexico City dedicated to preserving and revitalizing the craft legacy of indigenous and mestizo communities of Mexico.  Their work has been exhibited in numerous museums and cultural spaces in the U.S. and around the world.
